Parents Council slams move to block school league tables
The National Parents Council has criticised the Central Applications Office (CAO) for blocking the release of information that leads to the compilation of so-called school “league tables”.
Reports this morning said the CAO had decided to stop releasing the information because it may breach data protection legislation.
Such information has been used in recent days to show which schools provide the most students to Ireland’s third-level institutions.
Opponents of the “league tables” believe they could lead to a two-tier education system.
But the National Parents Council has insisted that parents are entitled to information about the success rates of pupils in individual schools.
