Brennan to press ahead with Aer Rianta break-up

Transport Minister Seamus Brennan is reportedly planning to press ahead with the break-up of Aer Rianta today, despite assurances to trade unions that he would consult them fully beforehand.

Reports this morning said the minister was planning to seek cabinet approval this morning for the break-up.

Industrial action at Aer Rianta was only narrowly averted earlier this year when the Taoiseach promised unions that they would be fully consulted before any move was made to break the company into three competing entities.

However, this morning’s reports said Mr Brennan has written to the Irish Congress of Trade Unions last week to say he was not willing to wait any longer.
