Brennan introduces new taxi regulations
The Minister for Transport, Seamus Brennan, has introduced tough new measures to crack down on rogue taxi drivers.
Figures released today show the number of cabs on the streets has swelled by 9,000 since deregulation four years ago - which some feel has caused a drop in standards.
Under new legislation, everyone who applies for, or renews their taxi licence must produce an up-to-date tax clearance cert.
Tommy Gorman of the National Taxi Drivers Union says the new measures will help clean up the business.
