People in Need raises €5.4m

The country's efforts to raise money for People in Need came to a spectacular close last night with a final tally of €5.4m.

TV favourite Gay Byrne came out of retirement to host TV coverage of the event.

People in Need has raised €28m in total over the past seven years.
