Grind school 'main provider' of students to UCD, Trinity
Private fee-paying schools and grind schools are still the main providers of students to the two leading colleges in Ireland, according to reports this morning.
The reports said figures obtained under the Freedom of Information Act showed that the Institute of Education in Dublin, the country’s largest grind school, was the biggest provider of students to both UCD and Trinity College.
Other Dublin schools like Belvedere College, Gonzaga, Mount Anville and Alexandra College also providing a high number of students to both colleges.
The figures are further evidence that many parents are spurning free schools in their areas.
This morning’s reports said there were more than 20,000 unfilled places in the free second-level sector in Dublin alone.
