An independent inquiry was ordered today into the escalation in price of a major road-building project in Co Wicklow.

Transport Minister Seamus Brennan announced the independent assessment of the Glen of the Downs project after it emerged its final cost of €85m dwarfed the original estimated tender price of €49.2m.

<p> Volunteers attending the DMax 7.7 fitness event, in honour of Darragh McCarthy, who tragically passed away last year at just 21 years of age. The sold-out fitness event saw over 300 competitors take on DMax 7.7 featuring seven fitness stations, lasting seven minutes per station with a two minute transition between station. Competitors entered in teams of two and tested their strength, endurance and mental resilience across a series of challenges including rope skipping, ski-erg, medicine ball, assault bike, rowing, burpee box jumps and wall balls.
