Shot Kelly fights for life
Former Limerick city councillor Michael Kelly is fighting for his life today after being admitted to hospital with a gunshot wound to the head.
Michael Kelly, who resigned his seat in 2002, was rushed to Limerick Regional Hospital by ambulance this morning.
A spokesman for the Mid-Western Regional Health Authority said the former alderman had suffered a gunshot wound to the head.
He was being treated by hospital consultants and his condition was described as critical.
Gardaí from Limerick’s Roxboro station are investigation the shooting incident.
The shots are believed to have been fired shortly before 9am this morning at Michael Kelly's mother's house in Lilac Court in the Southill area of the city.
The attack is the second time Mr Kelly has been shot.
He recovered from pellet wounds to his stomach after shots were fired as he opened the door to his home in February 2002.
