Two men were remanded in custody today charged with the gangland murder of a man shot outside a Dublin prison less than a month ago.

Brian Kenny, (aged 34), of Mitchelstown Cottage, Kilshane Cross, Co Dublin and Thomas Hinchon, (aged 24), of St Ronan’s Close, Clondalkin, Dublin 22 appeared before judge Catherine Murphy at Kilmainham District Court.

The men were charged with the murder of Jonathan O’Reilly, (aged 25), from St Mark’s Gardens, Clondalkin, who was shot as he sat in a car outside Dublin’s Cloverhill Prison on April 17.

Both were remanded without bail to appear in Cloverhill District Court on May 20.

Investigating officer Detective Sergeant Michael Doyle told the court he arrested Mr Kenny on May 12 under Section 4 of the Criminal Law Act, 1997.

The court heard when Mr Kenny was charged and cautioned at Ronanstown garda station, he replied he had nothing to say.

His application for legal aid was granted after Det Sgt Doyle was told Mr Kenny and his wife were not working.

The court heard the couple have two children and are receiving social welfare payments.

Det Sgt Doyle told the court Mr Hinchon was arrested on May 12 at Orchard Road in Clondalkin and charged with the murder of Jonathan O’Reilly at Cloverhill Road on April 17.

When he was charged in Clondalkin Garda Station, he replied he had nothing to say.

The solicitor for the defendant said there was no application for legal aid at this point.
