Greens candidate steps down from NI Euro race
The Green Party candidate for the European Parliament elections in Northern Ireland tonight withdrew from the contest.
Single mother Marie Perry had been expected to lodge her nomination papers for the June 10 election by the deadline of this Thursday.
But a Green Party spokesman confirmed she would not be putting her name forward because of a sporting injury.
It is understood Miss Perry was injured during a Gaelic football game at the weekend.
A Green Party spokesman said there would be a replacement who would surface before Thursday.
Green Party sources claimed the candidate was likely to be Northern Ireland co-leader Lindsay Whitcroft.
A Green Party source said: “Lindsay is a capable candidate who has been playing a hands on role in the European campaign."
