Council for the Blind: Just 10% look for help
The National Council for the Blind has revealed that just 10% of the 70,000 people thought to be suffering visual problems in Ireland are seeking its help.
The council said it provided support services to just 7,000 people, but based on international averages, tens of thousands more were suffering in silence.
The council said elderly people with failing eyesight are often among the most reluctant to seek help.
