'Private armies must retire' - Ahern

On the eve of a crucial meeting with Sinn Féin President Gerry Adams,Taoiseach Bertie Ahern has called for all private armies to retire, and warned the time for “polite fictions” was over.

He said time was running out and the Good Friday Agreement must not be allowed to languish and die.
