An Post, CWU accept proposals for clearing mail backlog

Postal services are expected to return to normal in the coming days following agreement between An Post and the Communications Workers Union about how to clear the mail backlog caused by recent staff suspensions.

The Labour Court issued proposals last night on how to clear the backlog and the recommendations were accepted by both sides. The CWU had objected to An Post’s original plan to hire 200 casual workers to help.

This row was separate to the main dispute between An Post and the CWU over the implementation of past agreements on pay and productivity.

The two sides are still involved in talks at the Labour Relations Commission in an effort to resolve that dispute.
