Unlawful killing ruling in McConville inquest

The inquest on Belfast mother of 10 Jean McConville has found that her death was a case of unlawful killing.

Her remains were found on a beach in north Louth last August, more than 30 years after the IRA abducted her from her Belfast home.

The IRA had claimed she had been passing on information to the British army.

Today's hearing in Dundalk was told that Mrs McConville was killed with a gunshot to the head within two weeks of being taken from her home on December 7, 1972, by a group of armed and masked men and women.

Following this afternoon's verdict, members of the family have said they have no intention of leaving the matter there and say they are determined to clear their mother's name.
