Govt to blame in TB row: McManus

Labour Party TD Liz McManus has said the Government is ultimately to blame for the situation where a man suffering from highly-infectious TB was refused admission at Dublin's Peamuont Hospital.

“The policy that the Government set out was that Peamount should change its service, but the Government has failed to ensure that the service to TB patients is developed in our acute hospital," said Deputy McManus.

"We have a direct failure by the Government impacting on an extremely sick patient. The minister is responsible and he had to take action."

Mr Martin later refused to intervene in the matter, saying it would be inappropriate for him to get involved while a row between the hospital and its TB specialist was subject to court action.
