Dormant accounts used to fund drug initiative
Dormant account funds totalling €275,000 are to be used in the fight against drugs in Clondalkin in Dublin.
The money will be divided between the Clondalkin Community Health Initiative which will receive €133,230 in funding, while Emotional Behavioural Difficulties project will get €141,358.
Both projects are designated RAPID (Revitalising Areas by Planning, Investment and Development) areas.
Local Fianna Fáil TD John Curran said today: "This funding will be directed towards programmes and projects that assist the most disadvantaged in society, namely: those affected by social and economic disadvantage; those affected by educational disadvantage; and persons with a disability."
Dormant account funds were established by the Government after a report on DIRT tax evasion on deposits in bogus non-resident accounts.
They are defined as bank accounts that had been untouched for at least seven years.
