Four men suspected of Real IRA membership are due in court after an alleged attempt to blow up a house.

The gang, all aged in their late teens and early 20s, were due before the Special Criminal Court in Dublin, believed to be charged with membership of an illegal organisation.

They were captured as a van packed with petrol was set alight outside a family home at Little Island, in Cork, in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

Two men were arrested at the scene and two a short distance away.

No one was injured in the explosion but a number of houses were evacuated by fire crews as a precaution.
