Dublin/Monaghan committee ‘against public inquiry’
The Oireachtas committee investigating the 1974 Dublin and Monaghan bombings is reportedly set to stop short of recommending a public inquiry into the attacks.
The committee was asked to investigate whether a public inquiry was warranted following the publication of the Barron Report into the bombings last year.
Reports this morning said the committee would advise against a full public inquiry when it issues its findings next week.
The reports said the committee would instead recommend an inquiry led by an internationally-respected judge conferred with special powers to examine sensitive files held by the British and Irish authorities.
