Two people have died as a result of the gale-force winds that lashed Ireland over the weekend.

Two people have died as a result of the gale-force winds that lashed Ireland over the weekend.

The latest victim was a 23-year-old woman who died in hospital last night from head injuries she sustained when a tree fell on top of her in Maynooth, Co Kildare, on Saturday.

A man in his 80s also died over the weekend after being hit by a lorry in Ballybay, Co Monaghan.

He is believed to have been blown in front of the vehicle by a freak gust of wind.
