Minister to announce pay-by-weight bin charge plans

Environment Minister Martin Cullen is expected to announce plans today to introduce a nationwide pay-by-weight system of bin charges.

Reports this morning said Mr Cullen’s new system would involve householders paying a weight-based charge on top of a flat fee.

The scheme is apparently designed to encourage people to recycle in order to reduce their refuse collection bill.
