The victim, believed to be aged 40, was found at a flat in Downpatrick, Co Down.

One man was arrested and taken for questioning by detectives.

Police have ruled out a sectarian motive in the killing.

Officers are thought to be examining a possible alcohol-fuelled row as a potential motive.

The body of the victim was found in the Kennedy Square area of the town early today.

A Police Service of Northern Ireland spokesman tonight confirmed a murder inquiry had been launched.
