Rhode power station towers tumble
The cooling towers of the controversial ESB electricity generating plant, in Rhode, Co Offaly, were demolished today.
The plant, which was fuelled by peat, ceased operation 14 months ago. Because of a failure to agree to redundancy or redeployment terms, the workforce continue to clock in and get paid.
The operation was watched by a large crowd of local people, including children who were given time off school.
