The Taoiseach has rejected suggestions that somebody in Fianna Fáil asked the Provisional IRA to delay the reintroduction of its ceasefire in 1997.

Bertie Ahern also denied that Fianna Fáil members had ever met the IRA’s seven-member army council, which decides the paramilitary organisation’s strategy.
