A lobby group representing rural interests has called on local authorities to waive development levies for first-time buyers and people wishing to settle in areas suffering depopulation.

Irish Rural Link said the planning guidelines for one-off housing published by the Government last week would fail to revitalise rural communities if such development levies were not scrapped.
