Accused thought victim 'had raped his sister'

A 53-year-old man died when he was savagely beaten by his nephew who wrongly believed he had raped his sister, Dublin Circuit Criminal Court has heard.

Stephen Byrne drank 10 pints before he punched his widowed uncle, Michael O'Brien, up to eight times in the head and then smashed a jug over his head when he called to the flat the dead man shared with his brother, Anthony O'Brien, who witnessed the violent attack.
