Amnesty launches domestic violence campaign

The Irish branch of Amnesty International has launched a campaign aimed at highlighting violence against women.

The campaign is designed to raise awareness of the different forms of violence perpetrated against women, from armed conflict to violence in the home.

Studies have found that around 20% of Irish women are affected by some form of domestic violence at some point in their lives.

Speaking at today’s launch, Joanna McMinn from the National Women’s Council said: “Violence against women results from unequal power relations between men and women."
