Rural communities could be left without a pharmacy if deregulation of the industry goes ahead, according to the Irish Pharmaceutical Union.

A report to the Government also says removing licensing for pharmacies would leave the market open to cherry picking by big chains.

IPU Secretary General Séamus Feely says the Government must act to help rural dwellers.
