Flanagan opts not to contest elections for FG

Former Dáil deputy Charles Flanagan has announced that he will not contest the forthcoming local elections for Fine Gael.

Party leader Enda Kenny announced the decision of Charles, the son of another former Dáil deputy Oliver J Flanagan.

The decision was made by Flanagan so he can concentrate on the development of his legal practice.

"I fully respect and understand his decision. He will continue to be a member and supporter of the Fine Gael Party," said Deputy Kenny.

"In addition, Charlie will continue to represent the Party as a member of our delegation to the National Forum on Europe."
