The Taoiseach, Bertie Ahern, has defended his Government’s plans to introduce electronic voting nationwide this year despite growing opposition to the system.

The matter was raised in the Dáil this morning by opposition leaders, who believe the electronic voting system will not attract public confidence unless it prints out a paper record of each ballot cast.
