Hospital consultants have agreed to suspend their campaign of industrial action against a new insurance scheme following a meeting with the Minister for Health.

Hospital consultants have agreed to suspend their campaign of industrial action against a new insurance scheme following a meeting with the Minister for Health.

It means consultants will re-engage with the National Treatment Purchase Fund and next Monday's planned withdrawal from all but emergency cover has been called off.

They have deferred their action for four weeks pending further talks with the Medical Defence Union which has refused to cover them against retrospective negligence claims.
