NBRU respond to Tanaiste's criticism

The National Bus and Railworkers Union responded to the Tánaiste's criticism by insisting their actions were a protest against privatisation and not change.

Tánaiste, Mary Harney, criticised the decision by public transport workers to stop work for four hours today.

Ms Harney said the workers must realise they are living in a time of change and have no option but to embrace that change.

But NBRU spokesman Liam Tobin said: “We have no problem with change, we have no problem with competition, we have no problem providing a better service to the public, but we don’t have to do that by privatising our companies.

"We have proved that we can do it internally and the success is there for everyone to see.”
