Tánaiste slams public transport strike

The Tánaiste Mary Harney has criticised the decision by public transport workers to stop work for four hours today.

The workers are planning to attend protest meetings between 11am and 3pm to highlight their anger at the slow pace of talks on the Government’s plans to break up CIÉ and privatise 25% of Dublin Bus routes.

Ms Harney said today that the workers must realise they are living in a time of change and have no option but to embrace that change.

She also said the four-hour stoppage proved the need for competition in the public transport sector.
