Bruton lashes Govt change on dormant accounts

Fine Gael deputy leader Richard Bruton today criticised the Cabinet decision to change the rules on the disbursement of dormant accounts so that the Government will have the final decision on the disbursement of the fund in the future.

“This is totally out of kilter with the concept of the Dormant Accounts Fund Disbursements Board which was established to ensure that this money was used to support people who are economically, educationally or socially disadvantaged or people with a disability," said Deputy Bruton.

“Fine Gael will table a question on this issue in the Dáil this week. When the State expropriates these funds it should do so as a solemn trust and it is unthinkable that they should be used as a slush fund for any political party.”
