Commuter braced for trouble as NBRU plan protest
Commuters face another day of industrial action on Monday as the National Bus and Railworkers' Union has decided to hold a day of protest with full strike action pencilled in for Monday February 23.
The Day of Action is also likely to affect all CIE services between 11am and 3pm on Monday next as union members attend protest meetings.
The NBRU has blamed the Minister for Transport Seamus Brennan for the disruption as proposed talks on the break-up of CIE have failed to materialise.
NBRU general secretary Liam Tobin said today: "The union has heard nothing from Brennan since its last meeting with him on January 26, at which he promised to address its concerns under an independent chair person."
Unions are seeking clarification from the Minister for Transport on job security if the proposed plan to split up CIE and open up some bus routes to private competition goes ahead.
Iarnrod Eireann has appealed for all staff roistered on Monday to work as scheduled.
