Coastguard in airlift rescue operation off Kerry coast
The Coastguard is conducting a rescue operation to airlift an injured fisherman from a trawler off the West coast.
The injured man, who is suffering from a fractured leg, is on a Norwegian fishing vessel believed to be about 100 miles of the coast of Kerry.
A Coastguard helicopter was unable to lift the fisherman to safety at the first attempt due to the severity of his condition.
A winchman stayed on board the trawler to treat the injured man, while the helicopter return to Kerry Airport for refuelling.
The helicopter is now returning to the scene, and is expected to bring the victim to Limerick General Hospital for treatment.
