Voluntary work suffers from bureaucracy

The President of the National Youth Council, Kevin Hickey, has warned that the State is in danger of stifling voluntary work.

The President of the National Youth Council, Kevin Hickey, has warned that the State is in danger of stifling voluntary work.

Mr Hickey says that many people are turning away from community work because of the amount of red tape and fundraising involved.

He said that the state should consider the huge bill it would face if it had to replace the volunteers who help in community and voluntary work.
