Fine Gael Foreign Affairs spokesman Gay Mitchell has said the Irish Government policy of allowing immigrants from EU accession states to qualify for social benefits may be untenable.

"Ireland and Britain form a common travel area and the British decision to phase in immigrants' rights to work may have implications here," said Deputy Mitchell.
