Committee to discuss Hollywood Report

The Oireachtas Health Committee is due to discuss the Hollywood Report on radiotherapy services when it meets in Dublin later today.

The report recommended that cancer services be concentrated in Dublin, Cork and Galway.

Independent TD Jerry Cowley said yesterday that he was opposed to any such plans as they would mean long journeys for cancer sufferers living far from the three cities.

Dr Cowley claimed cancer units could be established in other areas for the cost of accommodating patients in Dublin, Cork or Galway.
