Limerick murderers get another 15 years

Five men serving life for murder were sentenced today to a further 15 years for attempted murder and seven for false imprisonment.

The gang members were told by Justice Paul Carney they would die in prison unless the ongoing violent family feuds in Limerick ended.

Desmond Dundon, David Stanners, James McCarthy, Christopher Costello and Anthony McCarthy, all from the Limerick area, were convicted for their part in the murder of 36-year-old Kieran Keane in December.

They were sentenced today at Limerick’s Central Criminal Court for the attempted murder of Keane’s nephew Owen Treacy and for two counts of falsely imprisoning both men.

The sentences are to run concurrently from last March, when all five were arrested.

Keane was found shot dead with his hands tied behind his back last January as the bloody feud between warring Limerick families escalated.

It is understood Treacy was stabbed 17 times in the attack, which he survived to become the chief prosecution witness.
