Ulster Unionist Party forms new youth wing
The Ulster Unionist Party has formed a new youth wing after the old one disbanded in protest at the party’s pro-agreement policies.
The former youth wing was always vehemently opposed to the leadership of David Trimble.
Even before it disbanded, Mr Trimble said it was an unrepresentative cabal that deterred newcomers.
The UUP said today that it had decided to form a new youth wing and expected it to be formally ratified at the party’s AGM in May.
Mark Dunn, a young UUP member from Queen’s University in Belfast, said many people felt the old group was a wing of the DUP rather than pragmatic Ulster Unionism.
