Shop assistant stabbed in New Ross robbery

A female shop assistant is undergoing emergency surgery after she was stabbed during a robbery in Co Wexford.

The incident happened at around 2.15 this afternoon.

A man armed with a knife entered a shop on Quay Street in New Ross, demanded money from the till and then stabbed the 25-year old worker.

Gardaí believe the suspect would have been in the town for a number of hours before the incident.

They have appealed for information from anyone who saw the suspect, described as a bearded man between 40 and 50 years of age wearing a red top, blues jeans, brown boots and a distinctive woollen hat.
