The Dáil is due to vote tonight on a Labour Party motion urging the Government to do more to help Irish emigrants who moved to Britain in the past.

The motion said such emigrants had sent an estimated €3.5bn back to Ireland between 1939 and 1969 and played a crucial role in sustaining Irish society at a time of dire poverty.
