Five in court over Clare attack

Four teenagers and a 24-year-old man appeared in court in Ennis last night where they faced three charges, each arising out of an incident in Co Clare early yesterday when a woman was allegedly raped and her boyfriend seriously assaulted.

The youngest of the accused is 14, two are 15, one is 17 and the eldest is 24. All were charged with rape, false imprisonment and robbery.

The charges of false imprisonment and robbery relate to the male victim in the case.

The five were remanded in custody to appear at Kilrush district court on January 28 next.
