Four to appear in court on assault charges

Four young men are expected to appear at a special court sitting in Co Clare this evening, in connection with an alleged serious assault in the early hours of this morning.

It is alleged that a 35-year-old woman was raped while a 34-year-old man was locked in the boot of a car.

Five people were arrested in connection with the incident.

One was arrested some hours after the first detentions and no decision has yet been taken on whether to charge or release him.
