Taoiseach welcomes cancellation of Aer Rianta stoppage
The Taoiseach, Bertie Ahern, has welcomed SIPTU’s decision to call off a planned two-hour work stoppage at Dublin, Cork and Shannon airports this morning.
The union decided to call off the strike yesterday to give the Government more time to provide guarantees about workers’ terms and conditions following the proposed break-up of Aer Rianta.
Mr Ahern said today that he believed the action would have been unnecessary while talks between the unions and the Department of Transport were ongoing.
He also said the Government was committed to resolving its dispute with the transport unions.
