European Commissioner Chris Patten has reportedly proposed former Taoiseach John Bruton as his preferred candidate to become the EU’s representative in the US.

Reports this morning said Mr Patten, the External Affairs Commissioner, had also convinced a number of EU governments to support Mr Bruton’s appointment to the position.
