Pro-life group describe clone attempt as dangerous
The Irish pro-life group Youth Defence has criticised the announcement that a medical team has implanted a cloned embryo into a woman to produce a child.
Reacting to the announcement yesterday by the American doctor Pavos Zavos, Youth Defence spokesperson Justin Barrett described it as a disturbing development.
"What we have to look at is whether we are moving to a condition where we are viewing human beings as objects, where we are using them for medical experiments and so that that human being is not valued in and for themselves. So I'm not saying that that there are no possible benefits but I'm saying that the danger clearly outweighs the benefits."
A pregnancy test will be carried out on the 35-year-old woman in the coming weeks. If the details are correct there is a 30% chance she will become pregnant.
