Protestors come out against French ban on religious symbols

A protest will be held in Dublin city today against the decision by the French government to ban religious symbols in the workplace.

Campaigners claim it’s a move designed to target Muslim women from wearing their traditional veil in schools and public offices.

The Irish Anti-War movement is calling on members of the public here to support an international day of protest against the plans.

Spokesman Richard Boyd Barrett said the ban is targeting the Muslim community.

He said: "The campaign to ban religious symbols has been accompanied by constant attacks on the Muslim community, in particular."
