The health service urgently needs a major overhaul if it is to cope with the Ireland's rapidly increasing ageing population, experts warned today.

By 2050 more than a quarter of the population will be over 65, almost tripling the current number of pensioners, it was claimed at an Ageing Ireland conference in Dublin.
