PSNI Chief Constable links pipe bombs to loyalist rioting

The PSNI Chief Constable Hugh Orde has said that the two pipe bombs found in north Belfast last night are directly linked to the loyalist rioting at Maghaberry jail in Co Antrim.

He believes the pipe bombs were part of a plan by loyalists to disrupt the community.

The Chief Constable has said plans have been put in place to avoid a repeat of last night's events.

Meanwhile, UDA commander Jackie McDonald, a former prisoner, has said he believes prison officers are using the overnight violence to boost their argument for more spending on security at their homes.
