Marine Minister in talks with Spanish counterpart

Marine Minister Dermot Ahern has held a two-hour meeting with his Spanish counterpart in Madrid, where he has outlined the forthcoming fisheries programme of the Irish presidency.

Spain has the largest fishing fleet in the EU, and its marine sector is one of the Spanish economy's major earners.

Minister Ahern is hoping the similarities between Spain and Ireland in relation to the dependence on fisheries will result in a fruitful and progressive relationship during our EU Presidency.
